Gilberto Monzón

Executive Vice President, Consumer Lending Group, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico

Gilberto Monzon has more than 33 years’ experience in Mortgage Banking and Consumer Lending. For the past 23 years he has held various senior management positions within Popular Inc. He is currently the Executive Vice President in charge of the Consumer Lending Group for Banco Popular.

Prior to joining Banco Popular, Mr. Monzon was Senior Vice President for Metmor Financial, and Executive Vice President at Puerto Rico Home Mortgage. Mr. Monzon has worked with the Puerto Rican Government, the GSE’s and various Housing Finance Agencies, in the design and credit policies for subsidized and affordable housing programs in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

He served as President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Puerto Rico from 2004 to 2006. Since 2013 Mr. Monzon has been a member of the Government Relations Council for the American Bankers Association in Washington DC. From 2004 to 2010, Mr. Monzon served as a member of the Residential Board of Governors of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America.

He is a member of the San Jorge Children’s Hospital Professional Board; he also serves on the Board of Directors at Center for a New Economy “CNE” and is member of the Coalition for Prevention of Colorectal Cancer in Puerto Rico, currently serving as secretary of the Board.

Mr. Monzon has received numerous awards and recognitions from various finance and trade organizations over the past three decades.

Mr. Monzon attended Sacred Heart University as well as the School of Mortgage Banking of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America. He has concentrated studies in the areas of appraisal from American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers, financial planning, real estate and consumer credit.
