The Center for a New Economy (CNE) has been invited by the Committee on Natural Resources of the U.S. House of Representatives to share its expertise on the complexities of the Puerto Rico fiscal and economic crisis with committee members and staff.

What follows is an analysis of Puerto Rico’s current economic and fiscal situation which Sergio Marxuach submitted for the United States’ Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing on Thursday, October 22nd, 2015.
Good morning, Chairman Murkowski, Ranking Member Cantwell, and Members of the United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. I thank you for the opportunity to appear today before this Committee to discuss Puerto Rico’s financial and economic challenges.
Puerto Rico necesita implementar un plan abarcador para terminar con la crisis que enfrenta:
1. A corto plazo, el gobierno federal debe:
• Proveerle a la isla trato igual bajo los programas federales de salud, tales como Medicare, Medicaid, y el Affordable Care Act.
