On the 5th anniversary of the enactment of PROMESA, the CNE Review takes a look at how PROMESA has evolved, what has been overlooked, its costs to Puerto Rico, and its consequences. The unavoidable conclusion is that the territorial bankruptcy regime set up by law has failed to achieve most of the goals set forth by its authors.
El 30 de junio de 2016, el presidente Obama promulgó el Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (“PROMESA”). La conclusión ineludible es que el régimen de bancarrota territorial establecido por esa ley no ha logrado la mayoría de los objetivos planteados por sus autores.
On June 30, 2016, President Obama signed into law the Puerto Rico Oversight and Management Economic Stability Act. As we look back and take stock of the events that have taken place since 2016, the unavoidable conclusion is that the territorial bankruptcy regime set up by that law has failed to achieve most of the goals set forth by its authors.
In the first edition of our new publication, the CNE Review, we take stock of the post-storm reconstruction and recovery process as we approach the beginning of yet another hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean.
En esta primera edición de nuestro boletín CNE Review evaluamos el proceso de reconstrucción y recuperación posdesastre a medida que nos acercamos al comienzo de otra temporada de huracanes en el Océano Atlántico.
Han pasado aproximadamente tres años y ocho meses desde que el huracán María azotó a Puerto Rico el 20 de septiembre de 2017. Es un buen momento para evaluar el proceso de reconstrucción y recuperación posdesastre a medida que nos acercamos al comienzo de otra temporada de huracanes en el Océano Atlántico.
En el Centro para una Nueva Economía, al igual que el resto de Puerto Rico, hemos quedado conmocionados y visto con gran consternación los hechos recientes de violencia de género que han provocado la muerte de hermanas puertorriqueñas.
At the Center for a New Economy (CNE), like everywhere else in Puerto Rico, we have been shocked and seen with great consternation the recent acts of gender violence that have caused the death of Puerto Rican women.
